  •

Greetings to everyone.

I also bring you greetings from the President of the nation, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo- Addo.

It is with much delight that I join you today to commission Lot 8 of the Sinohydro Projects, which is, the upgrading of selected feeder roads in the Ashanti and Western Regions.

The completion of this project has improved accessibility within the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region and Anansu in the Sefwi Wiawso Municipality of the Western North Region.

The commencement date on the project was 11th December 2019 for completion in 30 months, i.e., June 2022. It is commendable to see that the project has been completed 3 months ahead of schedule.

I congratulate Sinohydro Construction Limited, the Ministry of Roads and Highways, and its implementing Agency-the Department of Feeder Roads, for the job well done. I urge the Ministry of Roads and Highways to put in place an effective roads maintenance regime to ensure that the roads are properly maintained.

Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen, there are currently 8 Lots of the Sinohydro Projects, at various stages of completion under phase 1 of the Sinohydro Master Project Support Agreement (MPSA). The following projects under Phase 1 would all be completed and commissioned this year:

Lot 3 – Construction of the Tamale Interchange. The first-ever interchange in the Northern part of our country is substantially completed and would be commissioned by the end of March 2022,

Lot 7- Upgrading of Selected Roads in Western Region and Cape Coast Inner City Roads is 82% complete and would be commissioned by the end of the second quarter of 2022, andLot 10 – Rehabilitation of the Hohoe-Jasikan-Dodo Pepesu Road (part of the Eastern Corridor Road Network) is 90% complete and would be commissioned in the second quarter of 2022.

Ladies and Gentlemen, the Government of Ghana, under the leadership of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, embarked on a transformation of the economy through the development of road infrastructure.

As brilliantly articulated by the World Bank, “Roads are the arteries through which the economy pulses. By linking producers to markets, workers to jobs, students to school, and the sick to hospitals, roads are vital to any development agenda”.

Since we assumed office in 2017, in addition to the projects undertaken under Sinohydro MPSA, Government has undertaken several road projects that would be completed and commissioned this year.

Please permit me to name some of these said projects in the Ashanti Region, as we are currently in this region. These projects include but are not limited to:

The Rehabilitation and auxiliary infrastructure of Kumasi Inner Ring Road and Adjacent streets- Ph1. This project is 96% completed and being undertaken by M/S Contracta. The works entail the rehabilitation of 100km of local roads in Asokwa, Kwadaso, Oforikrom, New Tafo, Suame Municipalities as well as Subin, Manhyia, Bantama and Nhyiaeso in the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly. The works are planned to be completed in April 2022 and would be commissioned by the end of the second quarter of the year.

The Reconstruction of the Anwiankwanta-Obuasi Road- 30km. The works are being undertaken by M/S Joshob Construction. It is 90% complete and planned to be commissioned in the third quarter of this year.

The upgrading of Dompoase-Aputuogya Road on the Lake Road in Kumasi. The project is 80% complete, it is being undertaken by M/S Kofi Job Ltd and planned to be completed by the end of the second quarter and would be commissioned in the third quarter of 2022, and

The rehabilitation of the Mampong-Kofiase Road. The project is 85% complete and being undertaken by M/S Kofi Job Ltd. It is expected to be completed by the end of the second quarter and would be commissioned in the third quarter of 2022.

Hon. Ministers of State, Hon. Members of Parliament, Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen, as I conclude, I once again congratulate all stakeholders that ensured the successful completion of lot 8 of the Sinohydro Projects.

It is also commendable to know that Sinohydro adhered to the local content component of the agreement and made sure local contractors participated in the project.

I hope that we will all continue to work hard and support mother Ghana.

Distinguished Guests, it is, therefore, my singular honour and pleasure to declare The Upgrading of the Selected Feeder Roads in Ashanti and Western Region- Lot 8 under Sinohydro Master Project Support Agreement (MPSA) between the Government of Ghana and the Peoples Republic of China, substantially completed and hereby commissioned.

God Bless us All.

God Bless our Homeland, Ghana.

Thank you for your attention.
