Vice President Bawumia launches Ghana card at birth initiative

Vice President of the Republic and Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), H.E Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has launched the Ghana Card at birth initiative to improve service delivery nationwide, at the Ga North Municipal Hospital on March 14, 2024, in Accra.

Addressing the gathering, he said, “Ghana Card at birth is not just an ID; it’s a promise to our children of a future where their identity and rights are recognized from their very first breath. It’s a testament to our commitment to building an effective, efficient, responsive, and accountable public sector that meets the needs of the Ghanaian citizenry and ensure that every Ghanaian, no matter how young, is counted, recognized, and valued.”

Dr. Bawumia further added that, with this initiative, there will no longer be the need to for the traditional head count by the time for the next population census, as the total number of Ghanaians will be known and digitally provided. This will also cut down cost incurred on censuses and aid in the evaluation of the progress of childhood interventions.

He continued to emphasize on the importance of this initiative saying, “This database will also allow us to deal with the problem of child trafficking, which is a major issue. When a child is trafficked and the perpetrator is arrested, you will be able to find the parents of the child”.
