The Vice President of the Republic of Ghana and Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), H.E. Alhaji dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has on Wednesday October 30, 2024, joined stakeholders of the transport sector for the launch of the first ride-hailing digital platform designed for Ghanaian taxi drivers, the GoRide, at the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, themed: Modernizing Taxi Rides for Urban Ghana.
He noted that, “With the increasing presence of international ride hailing apps, our local drivers have faced immense challenges, particularly with high commission rates imposed by these platforms, and the business of traditional taxi drivers also continue to suffer, due to stiff competition from these apps, thus threatening their livelihoods.” The launch of the GoRide, which has special features to cater for the needs of the Ghanaian taxi system, therefore, represents a bold step towards upgrading the business and competitiveness of our local and taxi drivers.”
“With a competitive commission rate of just 10%, unlike the very high charges of the others, our drivers are being empowered to retain more of their hard-earned money, allowing them to improve their financial stability and support their families”, Dr. Bawumia added.
The GoRide fulfills Dr. Bawumia’s pledge to the transport sector’s leadership to find a contemporary solution to taxi drivers’ challenges after they shared them with him. He has therefore called on all stakeholders, including Ghanaians, to collaborate to make the GoRide initiative a success for the benefit of our drivers and our nation.
