The Vice President of the Republic of Ghana and Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), H.E. Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has on Wednesday May 8, 2024, delivered the keynote address on the Ghana Mining Vision, organized by the University of Energy and Natural Resources, in Sunyani.
He noted that under his administration, he will establish common-user processing facilities to facilitate mining in the various districts in the establish. Adding that, “…we shall establish Community Environmental Protection Assistants working under Minerals Commission/Environmental Protection Agency with River Wardens and local authorities to augment the safeguarding of our environment/water bodies.”
Dr. Bawumia also shared his vision on the need for a paradigm shift in the management of the country’s natural resources, including a 100% ownership of mining concessions by Ghanaians for newly discovered mineral reserves after exploration activities by the Geological Survey Department and Universities in the country, as well as the formalization and licensing of small scale mining.
