The Vice President of the Republic of Ghana and Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), H.E. Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has on Monday April 22, 2024, held engagements with the National Executives of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) at the Jubilee House.
He explained his vision of leveraging the private sector and an enhanced credit system to expand educational infrastructure, and support teaching and non-teaching staff to enhance the quality of education and educational outcomes.
“Under my proposal (which I mentioned during my February 7th speech at UPSA) the private sector will be encouraged to build infrastructure (such as dormitories, classrooms, etc.) which government will rent over a period of years and own it after a period of time. Government will also lease buses for schools. This new mode of financing will avoid huge initial government outlays (through the GETFUND) and delays in the completion of infrastructure projects in our senior high schools”, Dr. Bawumia said.
He further added that, CHASS is optimistic about the possibilities of this policy proposal since it will minimize the educational infrastructure deficit, improve maintenance, raise educational quality, and improve government budget management.
