Vice President of the Republic, H.E Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has on December 14, 2023, joined the Bank of Ghana to honour and celebrate the winners of the eCedi Hackathon, in Accra.
He noted that, “Globally, 88 competitors took part in the eCedi Hackathon with different teams representing innovative ideas and solutions on different use cases of the e-cedi”, and added that, he is pleased with how diligent and rigorous the Bank of Ghana has been in implementing the eCedi.
Dr. Bawumia has further expressed how thrilled he is about the idea of utilizing the power of technology to address our developmental issues, leveraging the technological infrastructure that has been put in place in recent years, and has congratulated Forward Titans for emerging winners and nine others who were shortlisted.
eCedi Hackathon is a competition aimed at bringing together the best minds in technology and finance to investigate the limitless possibilities of a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC). Ghana is one of three African countries actively piloting a CBDC.
