The Vice President of the Republic of Ghana and Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), H.E. Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has on Sunday May 5, 2024, met with a cross-section of market traders and importers in Accra.
He has explained to the importance of the new policies he has proposed to improve the business environment in Ghana which include a flat tax regime for all businesses and individuals to enhance transparency and compliance in the system, as it is in Estonia, the implementation of tax amnesty in 2025 for all individuals and businesses to eliminate tax liabilities up to a certain year, flat tax import duty system at the ports for containers of various goods in cedis to make import duties predictable for traders thereby preventing persistent increases in prices by traders in anticipation of higher import duties.
In addition to these is the benchmarking of import duties in Ghana to duties at Lome Port to ensure that Ghana’s import duties are the same as what exists in Togo, the implementation of a policy of Faceless Audits by GRA through the use of technology and the abolishment of the practice invigilation by GRA.
Dr. Bawumia has expressed gratitude for the fruitful engagement, adding that he is encouraged by their support.
