Vice President Bawumia commissions ICT Lab and donates laptops at the Akropong School for the Blind

The Vice President of the Republic of Ghana and Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), H.E. Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has on Friday August 2, 2024, commissioned an ICT Lab and has as well donated104 laptops to Special Needs Teachers at the Akropong School for the Blind, in the Eastern Region.

Addressing the gathering which included teachers and students of the school, he noted that, “As a country, we want to put issues of children with special needs on the development agenda and take steps to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 4 which is to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all”.

Adding that, “It is fitting that we launch this innovative ICT Lab and provide equipment to teachers at this school where some 79 years ago this August, the school started. This school has been a pioneer in providing education for the blind and has been a West African giant in educating students with disabilities and I intend to also be the catalyst and champion for a 21st century revolution in special education”.

Dr. Bawumia further said that, the ICT Lab that is been handed over is more than just a room full of computers. It is a portal to a world of possibilities, a platform for creativity, and a ray of hope enabling students with visual impairments to explore the digital universe with confidence and ease.

He further added that he has been informed of 104 visually impaired teachers in the school, hence the distribution of laptops to these teachers with the help of partners, to ensure no teacher or student is left out in the ongoing digital revolution in Ghana.
