H.E Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice President of the Republic, has on June 23 2023, commissioned the 31.2km Assin Fosu – Assin Praso portion of the National Trunk Road N8 (Phase 2) at Assin Praso in the Central Region.
He said, “…the completion of this section of road, including dualisation of Assin Fosu town roads, will improve travel times for communities along the road especially Assin Praso, Assin Breku, Assin Akonfode, Brofoyeduru, Assin Nyankomase, and Assin Fosu, according to officials of the Ministry of Roads and Highways”.
Dr. Bawumia noted that the N8 is an important link for the transportation of freight and people, from the Western and Central regions to the Ashanti region and the northern part of the country as well as neighbouring landlocked countries.
He further added that the construction of a 70m span steel bridge on Kushea- Hwidiem Feedar Road over River Pra has been completed, saying, “…the bridge over River Pra at Twifo Praso is substantially completed and the works on the approach roads are ongoing. The bridge separates vehicular traffic from the rail over River Pra”.
Other road works in the region include the rehabilitation of the 32km Mankessim- Abura Dunkwa Road which is 80% complete, the upgrading of the 15km Assin Asempaneye- Kushea Road which is 70% complete with ongoing primer sealing, the upgrading of the 5km Assin Breku Town Roads and the 2.5km Akonfode Town Roads which are both 50% complete.
