Vice President of the Republic, H.E Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has on December 25, 2023, joined Ghanaians at the Akwaaba Village in Accra, to cheer Afua Asantewaa Aduonum on, in her quest to break the Guiness Book of Records, for the longest singing marathon by an individual.
He said, “What Afua is trying to do is to break a world record and it’s not very easy to do and so, a day like this, Christmas day, everybody is spending time with family and it could be very lonely and I think that as Ghanaians, we should give her all the support and moral encouragement as we can, so I thought I should stop by here and let her know that Ghana is behind her and she should go ahead and break the record. It is possible for us to do it and the mindset should be that…”.
Dr. Bawumia added that, there is a lot of talent in the creative arts industry and believes that the returns to investment will be high, in terms of job creation, foreign exchange earnings, among others. Therefore much attention must be paid to the sector that light.
Speaking on the economy, he said, “…we’ve been through rough times in the past, especially following COVID and so on, and everybody saw prices really shoot through the roof, we ended up with inflation of 54% last year this time, and this year we’re talking of 26% so far. Prices rather than going up are falling, whether we’re talking about rice, oil, cement, all of those prices are actually falling. We’re not where we want to be yet but I think that the recovery is in progress…”
Afua Asantewaa Aduonum started her official attempt to break Sunil Waghmar’s 105-hour record, on December 24, 2023 and will end on December 27, 2023.
