Vice President, H.E Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has disclosed that, the provision of Ghana Card
numbers to new born babies at birth starts on the 31 st of March, 2023, which implies that, they will not have to wait till they turn 15 before they acquire identification numbers.
He made this disclosure whiles addressing a gathering at a Breast Cancer Awareness programme held at Accra Newtown on March 8, 2023, to mark the International Women’s Day celebration themed, “DigitALL: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality”. The day is marked every year to appreciate the tremendous contributions of women in national development.
The Breast Cancer Awareness programme was organized by the Office of the Vice President, in
collaboration with Breast Care International, to sensitize the public on the need to screen their
breasts and screen for cervical cancer, as early detection saves life.
Dr. Bawumia also highlighted on some digital interventions and innovations rolled out by Government under the Digital Ghana Agenda, spearheaded by him, to promote ease-of-doing- business, enhance service delivery, ensure inclusion and enhance national development. They include the mobile money interoperability, Ghana Card for national identification, medical drone delivery services, paperless port system, online passport application, the health insurance app for registration and renewal of membership, the digital address system, QR code, among others.
Issuance of Ghana card to new-born babies commence on March 31- Dr. Bawumia
