Stephen Harper, Former Canadian Prime Minister, has lauded the Vice President of the Republic
of Ghana, His Excellency Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for his excellent keynote address at the
International Democratic Union Forum (IDU) 2022, in Washington D. C.
The Former Canadian Prime Minister disclosed this in a tweet saying, “My congratulations to
Ghana’s Vice President, H.E., Dr @Bawumia, for his outstanding keynote address at the IDU
Forum 2022 in Washington D.C.” I applaud the @NPP GH party for their outstanding efforts to
promote freedom and democracy in Ghana and across the African continent. “#IDUDC”.
H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia made his keynote address on supporting democracy and enabling
global trade. “Ladies and gentlemen, democracy, rule of law, respect for territorial integrity of
countries, is what will create the peace and global stability for trade to flourish. The current
supply chain and global trade disruption is linked more to democracy, rule of law and lack of
respect for territorial integrity of countries” he said.
Together with some others, H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia further proposed measures to ensure
global trade and economic stability as a result of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the
Russia-Ukraine crises on the economy and trade respectively, “Policy makers in these difficult
times must strengthen micro-economic buffers and institutions to promote stability. There is also
the need to strengthen social protection framework to protect the vulnerable for a more just and
equal recovery”. “As globalists, ours is a more connected world working towards shared
prosperity, we owe it to ourselves and posterity to keep breaking barriers to ensure that the gab
between the developed and emerging markets are continuously bridged for the good of us all”.
