The Vice President, H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has opened the 74th Annual New Year School and Conference (ANYSC), at the Great Hall of the University of Ghana, Legon, today, January 17, 2023, themed, “Positioning the African Market for Sustainable Economic Development through AfCTA (African Continental Free Trade Area Secretariat)”.
He indicated that, “while recent domestic and global economic challenges have negatively
impacted our economy, it is important that we promote AfCFTA efforts of key stakeholders
such as industry, the private sector, academia and government to reposition Ghana through
trade.”
Dr. Bawumia also emphasized on the digitization initiative by government, which has propelled the country to one of the leading digital economies in Africa, an indication of how the Ghanaian economic architecture is being transformed by government ahead of the impending global economic revolution.
He further lauded the University of Ghana for it’s sustainable role played in the New Year
School, making room for national discourse and transforming the country.
Activities lined up for the three-day programme include the Main School and Conference on
Tuesday and Wednesday, January 17 and 18 respectively, and the Youth School, slated for
Thursday, January 19, all at the Conference Room of the Institute of Statistical Social and
Economic Research (ISSER) of the University of Ghana, with about 400 expected participants for the Main School and Conference.
