The Vice President of the Republic, H.E Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, speaking as the Special Guest of Honour, at the 46th Session of The General Council Meeting of The Church of Pentecost on May 4, 2023, at the Pentecost Convention Centre, themed: Repositioning The Local Church For Maximum Impact In The Nations, has urged politicians to focus on dealing with the problems of people.
He cited how the problem of Taxi drivers experiencing low patronage due to the high demand of Uber was brought to his attention and now, a solution to the problem has been provided, implying that, Taxi drivers are being equipped with the capacity to compete with the Uber drivers.
“…in the next couple of months, we will be able to place our Taxis, at least in Greater Accra to start with, all on an Uber-like platform and you will be able to call them, just like you call Ubers to your homes and all of that, it’s a practical solution to a practical problem and that is the sort of things that we as politicians should be focusing on, dealing with problems of our people”, he said.
He added that, Trotros, VIP Buses, Ayalolos, Metro Mass Buses and the whole public and private sector transports will migrate to a “Tap and Go” system, which is similar to the Oyster Card in England.
Dr. Bawumia has also lauded and appreciated the leadership of the church for their enormous support to the country during the outbreak of the COVID-19 Global Pandemic, their support to the country’s Prisons Service, among others.
He said, “…the President and the Government greatly acknowledge and appreciate the Church of Pentecost contribution to national development. In the wake of the COVID-19 Pandemic, the nation received significant relief from the church, you released this centre, Pentecost Convention Centre, for use as an isolation and treatment centre for patients. Again, the church released 15 vans to the National Commission for Civic Education to help educate Ghanaians about the pandemic. The church provided fuel for these vans, for the entire time the NCCE used these vans. It is for these reasons and many others that the Church of Pentecost was among the few institutions awarded by the state at the recent National Honours and Awards Event presented and presided over by the President of the Republic, H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, in recognition of the church’s contribution to the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, once again thank you very much and congratulations”.
“Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, I am also aware that in line with the church’s effort to contribute to the decongestion of our prisons and the reformation of prisoners, it has built and donated two state of the art, well-furnished correctional facilities at Ejura and Nsawam to the Ghana Prisons Service and by extension to the nation. I am told that there are two others also at various levels of completion. Aside these mentioned, I’m also aware of many other intervention programmes in the areas of education, community healthcare, water and sanitation, economic livelihood empowerment as well as many other critical interventions bothering the peace and stability of the nation including the construction of Police Stations and ministry to the ghettos”.
He stressed the need for all institutions to rely on data as Government and the Church of Pentecost is doing, as it is a source of light.
