Rural Elderly Population

My vision for Ghana’s rural elderly population is to ensure a secure and supportive environment, where the elderly have access to enhanced social protection, healthcare, and essential services through digital platforms. I will streamline public services, making it easier for seniors to access healthcare, pensions, and social welfare benefits without the burden of bureaucracy. With expanded mobile banking and financial inclusion, the elderly can manage finances securely and conveniently.

I will employ and equip more security services personnel to deepen security and ensure the safety of our homes. I will complete the Agenda 111 hospitals, build specialized centres, and expand existing facilities to improve access for rural communities. My vision includes passing an Ageing Act to establish a compassionate society where our elderly receive the care and protection they deserve.

To drive agricultural transformation, I am committed to achieving food security, boosting productivity, and creating sustainable jobs through modernized farming. By establishing regional agricultural hubs, I will strengthen food production, processing, and storage infrastructure, empowering rural communities and securing our nation’s agricultural future.

Top 5 Frequently Asked Questions

Question 1: How will the proposed Ageing Act improve the lives of elderly citizens?

Answer: The Ageing Act will create structured policies and programs that address the specific needs of the elderly. This includes better healthcare services, social safety nets, and protection against discrimination. It will ensure that older adults can live independently and with dignity, with the necessary support systems in place.

Question 2: How will creating agricultural enclaves benefit farmers and agricultural workers?

Answer: Dr. Bawumia’s administration will create agricultural enclaves in each region, which will serve as hubs for agribusiness, storage, and value addition. These enclaves will not only expand agribusiness but also create jobs, especially for youth and women in rural areas, by connecting farmers to processing plants, markets, and financial support.

Question 3: What specific steps will be taken to strengthen security?

Answer: Dr. Bawumia plans to expand the fleet of operational vehicles for Security and Intelligence Agencies (SIAs), enabling rapid response to security threats. In addition, anti-crime camera systems will be deployed in neighbourhoods to enhance crime monitoring and prevention efforts. These investments will improve the police force’s capacity to patrol effectively and respond quickly to incidents, ensuring a safer environment for all Ghanaians.

Question 4: What specific measures will be taken to improve care for elderly citizens in Ghana?

Answer: Bawumia’s policy includes promoting geriatric care and establishing training programs for elder care to address the unique health challenges faced by elderly citizens. This initiative will equip healthcare professionals with the skills needed to provide specialized care for older patients, ensuring they receive appropriate, compassionate treatment as the elderly population grows.

Question 5: How will Dr. Bawumia’s digitalization initiatives improve access to social services for the elderly in Ghana?

Answer: By integrating services onto digital platforms, seniors can avoid the lengthy processes associated with in-person visits and bureaucratic delays. Also, digital platforms for mobile banking will allow the elderly to receive pensions and social benefits directly and securely, reducing the risk of financial hardship.
