The 2024 Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, today, July 13, 2025, paid a solemn visit to Hon. Hawa Koomson, Hon. Akua Owusu Afriyie, Deputy National Organizer Nana Lloyd, and a number of polling agents who were brutally assaulted during the Ablekuma North constituency election rerun on July 11, 2025.

Dr. Bawumia’s visit was to commiserate with the victims, offer support and solidarity, and reaffirm his commitment to their well-being and safety. He described the attacks as “barbaric, unprovoked, and a threat to our democratic values,” and emphasized that violence has no place in Ghana’s political space.
During the visit, Dr. Bawumia assured the victims of full medical support, stating that arrangements were already underway to ensure all injured party members receive the best care. He also announced a dedicated medical support fund to cater to the health needs of any NPP member who becomes a victim of violence while performing their party duties.
“I want to assure all of you, and indeed every party member across the country, that you will never be alone in times like this,” Dr. Bawumia said. “We will take care of your medical needs, and we are setting up a fund specifically for this purpose so that every NPP member who is attacked in the line of duty can get the help they need.”
Addressing the youth of the party, many of whom were visibly distressed over the incident, Dr. Bawumia sent a strong message of assurance, declaring that justice will be served.

“It doesn’t matter how long it takes, we will not rest until the perpetrators of these attacks are brought to book. We owe it to every loyal party member who puts their life on the line for democracy,” he said.
He used the occasion to thank the polling agents for their courage and service in the face of intimidation. He urged calm among the party’s rank and file and reiterated the NPP’s commitment to peaceful and democratic engagement, while firmly standing against impunity.

The Ablekuma North constituency rerun, which was ordered by the Electoral Commission, was marred by acts of violence allegedly orchestrated by political thugs. The attack left several individuals injured, including prominent party figures and grassroots organizers.
Dr. Bawumia was accompanied by senior party officials and members of the national campaign team during the visit.
