The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) and taxi drivers have praised H.E Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia at the launch of the “tap n’ go” taxi app, on December 15, 2023, at the Trades Union Congress in Accra.
The National Chairman of GPRTU, Nana Nimako Bresiamah said, “The taxi driving business, as we all know, has been taken online by many foreign companies, and for our members who were still operating the old way, we were gradually getting out of business and the launch of this app, through the support and efforts of Vice President Bawumia, is a timely intervention to save our business”.
He further disclosed that, in response to the adverse effects of various foreign taxi apps on the operations of Ghanaian taxi drivers, the GPRTU met with Dr. Bawumia to convey their concerns, and the Vice President assured them of a remedy, which he said was fulfilled.
He has advised the drivers to worth diligently to ensure a smooth and successful process.
Dr. Augustine Blay, Executive Secretary to the Vice President, in his keynote address, expressed the Vice President’s excitement on this groundbreaking breakthrough in the realm of private transportation in the country, which is here to promote the sector and ensure that it is not left out in the Digital Ghana Agenda.
