Veep Commissions new office of the Head of Local Government Service.

The Vice President, H.E Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has on Thursday, 6 th April, 2023, together
with the Minister of State at the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development and the
Administrator of the District Assembly Common Fund, commissioned a new office block for the
Head of Local Government Service in Accra.
Speaking at the commissioning, Dr. Bawumia said, “it is an undeniable fact that development is
a phenomenon that takes place in space and whatever we seek to achieve as a nation, will
definitely happen in the jurisdictions of the local government authorities in the country…”.
He added that, “government is committed to ensure the delivery of responsive and robust local
governance system that will deliver the optimum developmental aspirations of our people”.
The multi-story complex, completed in 20 months and sponsored by the Government through the
Office of the District Assembly Common Fund, is ample proof of the government’s commitment
to promoting a local governance system responsive to the needs of citizens, he indicated.
Dr. Bawumia has urged local government institutions to develop effective and efficient strategies
for mobilizing resources, plugging leakages, and ensuring fiscal discipline in the use of scarce
resources, and has therefore urged the service to aggressively leverage technology in transacting
its official business.
Dr. Bawumia further stated that, with the establishment of six new regions and numerous
districts and municipalities, the Office of the Head of Local Government Service is expected to

strengthen local government structures, implement time-tested systems and processes, adopt
modern practices in human resource selection, retention, and capacity development, and improve
the overall administration of the country’s decentralized local governance system.
He again explained that, the goal of the facility, would be to keep public administration current
and relevant to its mandates and purposes.
