Vice President Bawumia engages the creative arts industry; announces launch of local streaming platform

H.E. Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice President of the Republic of Ghana and Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has on October 16, 2024, engaged people in the Ghana’s Creative Arts Industry at the Alisa Hotel in Accra, under theme; “Driving Ghana’s Arts and Tourism Future with Innovation: It is Possible”, and has announced the launch of a local streaming platform in November.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Bawumia stressed the importance of the creative arts industry in Ghana’s economic development, claiming that it has the potential to create jobs, boost tourism, and promote Ghanaian culture on a global scale. He also highlighted the problems that industry practitioners face, particularly in terms of infrastructure, funding, access to foreign markets, and intellectual property rights.

He stated that, “the creative arts are key to economic growth, and by working together, we can make sure this sector thrives.” “We’ve been working with MUSIGA, GHAMRO, and the private sector to create a platform that can help track royalties and facilitate revenue management for musicians and other creatives”, he added.

Dr. Bawumia further said that taking proactive steps will pave way for the creatives to grow and contribute to Ghana’s economy, thereby making the development of a local music streaming platform a step in the right direction. “This will help maximize opportunities and enable creatives to access and manage their revenue”, he added.

He further touched on solutions he will implement post-2024 to tackle the challenges faced by the creative industry which include the Creative Arts Development Fund, Creative Arts Technology Hub, Infrastructure Development, Tax Incentives for the Creative Arts, Creative Arts Curriculum in Schools, Intellectual Property Rights Protection and International Market Access.

Dr. Bawumia has expressed gratitude to them for their presence, insights and encouragement on this journey of possibilities.
