Executives of the party was surrounded by jubilant attendees who could not hide their delight at the sight of Dr. Bawumia.
Supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who were present at the festival, sang praises of the Vice-President as he made his way through the jubilant crowd to shake hands with Otumfour Osei Tutu II, the Overlord of the Asante Kingdom, while dressed in stunning Asante Kente and accompanied by second lady Samira Bawumia.
Dr. Bawumia, who was obviously overjoyed, urged the NPP’s local members to keep moving
forward as a group.
He also admonished NPP supporters to be in the spirit of party unity and cohesion and continue to work in unison ahead of the 2024 polls.
Bawumia told the party supporters ahead of the Akwasidae celebration. “Let me commend the “I am humbled by the surprising and amazing support. It is a big statement you have made,”
constituency chairmen and other executives in the Ashanti Region for this support.”
“I exist because of you. The organisation of this welcome was done in unity between chairman
Wontumi and Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, and that is very commendable. It is only the NPP that
can beat itself and therefore unity in Ashanti is important ahead of 2024 polls,” he said.
The Akwasidae Festival is a beautiful Asante celebration centred on ancestral reverence,
remembrance, and acknowledgment of past Kings and noble feats.
It is a celebration of the Golden Stool and a cultural vibrancy that brings together the
Asantehene, sub-chiefs, and subjects at the Manhyia palace.
Even though it was not the first time Dr. Bawumia is attending the festival, he became the center of attention as patrons couldn’t stop admiring his humility and shouting his name in admiration, proving that Dr. Bawumia continues to be an attracting force to members both within and outside the NPP.
