Justice delayed is justice denied, exercise your responsibilities with fairness and expedition- Dr. Bawumia charges justice administrators.

The Vice President, H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has called on justice administrators at all
levels to perform their duties with fairness and expedition, while addressing thousands of
Ahmadi faithful at the 90 th National Annual Convention of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission, at
Baghe-Ahmad at Pomadze, in the Central Region on the 22 nd of January, 2023, themed,
“Promoting Justice And Social Cohesion- The Islamic Example”
He said, “When members of the society feel that they have been treated unfairly, a foundation
has been laid for social unrest, disharmony, and strikes”, and added that, delays in cases for years
at the law court could lead to discomfort and frustrations of the parties involved and often fuel
the perception of lack of transparency, corruption and political interferences in justice
administration, and has therefore urged that the delivery of justice be made on time as the delay
in the pursuit of justice pose a veritable threat to societal harmony and national security.
However, he added that, no violence could ever be justified since legal processes ought to be
followed to seek justice if one felt unfairly treated, emphasizing on the fact that, “we should
never take the law into our own hands”.
Dr. Bawumia emphasized the significance of the theme in relation to justice delivery in the
country and noted that Ghana’s social landscape is characterized by chieftaincy, land and
property disputes, of which the courts at various levels are required to make decisions on the
entitlement of litigants based on acceptable standards of justice.

He noted that the government is committed to enhancing justice delivery in the country and has
taken decisive steps, focusing on interventions for efficient and expedited justice delivery which
include the provision of logistics support to enhance justice delivery, the plea-bargaining Act
which facilitates case resolutions and trials within a reasonable time, ensures effective
prosecution and aids in clearing backlog cases, the introduction of the E-court which is
enhancing Ghana’s justice systems. “With the e-court system, it does not matter where a lawyer,
witness or a prosecutor is, once they log into the system with a judge present, proceedings can
take place”, Dr. Bawumia elaborated.
Dr. Bawumia also mentioned the Legal Aid Commission and the Law Reform Commission
funds which will enhance justice delivery in the country.
The three-day convention, which is the first to be held since the outbreak of the COVID-19
pandemic, is a gathering of about 30,000 Ahmadi faithful across the country and delegations
from other countries. In attendance was Sheikh Arimiyaw Shaibu, who delivered a fraternal
message on behalf of the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu.
